European Mobility Week takes place each year from the 16th September to the 22nd September. It involves over 2,000 towns and cities throughout Europe highlighting the necessity for changes in behaviour in relation to mobility.
The objective of European Mobility Week is to faciliate widespread debate on the necessity for changes in travel patterns and in particular the need to reduce individual car use.
The Week provides a platform to:
- Raise public awareness of growing concerns such as air pollution, road safety and climate change.
- Contribute to public awareness of the damage to the environment and quality of life that certain mobility trends generate.
- Promote existing policies, initiatives and best practices related to sustainable mobility.
European Mobility Week provides an opportunity to consider the impact of how you travel, has on your health, the environment and your personal finances.
The Week provides the ideal opportunity to experience alternative transport options including walking, cycling, public transport, car pooling etc
European Mobility Week 2009
“IMPROVING
CITY CLIMATES” was the central theme for European Mobility Week 2009, establishing a direct link with the UN Climate Change Conference held in
European Mobility Week 2009 marked the second year for Galway County Council to participate in European Mobility Week and ‘In Town Without My Car`. The Council built on the success of 2008 in delivering a range of activities including Streets Alive and the County Galway Primary Schools Cycling Championship.
‘L I V I N G S T R E E T S 2009’ - Sustainable Mobility Initiative
‘L I V I N G S T R E E T S 2009’ was a Sustainable Mobility Initiative open to community groups, schools, youth groups, workplaces etc aimed at encouraging participation in European Mobility Week & ‘In Town Without My Car` by arranging community or workplace based activities related to sustainable mobility.
