Projects
Some projects just recently initiated which will continue in the next stage of the project include:
A comprehensive schools biodiversity projects programme in conjunction with the Galway Eduction Centre and the Digital Enterprise Research Unit (DERI, - NUI, Galway). Where schools will undertake a local nature study which they will then put on film or on a school web page (Woodford Primary and Secondary Schools, Williamstown School, St Oliver Plunkett NS Athenry, Cashel NS, Derrybrien NS)Four schools will be receiving marine fish tanks which will contain species found in Galway Bay which they will look after for a year (with DERI and the Atlantiquarium).Living Bird Tables – nature gardens to attract birds will be developed with 3 primary schools (Cleggan and 2 others), a secondary school and a community crèche (Ballindeerin)A community nature/vegetable organic Garden in Parkmore Estate in Tuam (with Housing and Community and Enterprise sections, Galway Co. Council)In partnership with the Heritage Office and the Zebra Mussel Project a Biodiversity Puppet show commissioned and developed by ‘Your mans Puppets’, a local puppet theatre. The show presents the topics of biodiversity in aquatic ecosystems and the effect that the zebra mussel as an invasive alien species has on biodiversity. The show will be visiting ten schools in the coming months.
