Tidy Towns

Galway County Council supports Tidy Town committees taking part in the National Tidy Towns Annual Competition. The competition rewards local communities who have improved their environmental surroundings and local amenities.  

Galway County Council provides the following supports for Tidy Towns:  

Advise on:

  1. Applying for the National Tidy Towns Scheme and Departmental Guidelines
  2. Developing Tidy Towns Plans and Applications
  3. Developing and overseeing projects in your community
  4. Initial technical advice on environmental issues, litter management, bio-diversity, heritage, architectural conservation, community planning and local infrastructure.

Financial Support and Advice:

  1. Funding through out Community Support Schemes – Amenity Grants, Arts Grants, Heritage Grants subject to resources being available and application being successful
  2. Referral Service to other funding streams   for example Local Development Companies (LEADER Programme), the Heritage Council, National Tree Council and so on

Infrastructure Improvements:

  1. Urban and Village Improvements
  2. Footpath and Lighting Improvements
