Welcome to the County Galway Culture Night 2012
Welcome to the first ever Culture Night for County Galway. Culture Night is an annual event that celebrates culture, creativity and the arts. It will take place on Friday 21st September 2012.
While some areas in County Galway have celebrated Culture Night in previous years, this is the first year that a coordinated programme for County Galway has been organised. Galway County Council has been fortunate to receive funding from the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht to organise Culture Night 2012.
What’s on Offer?
17 towns and villages across County Galway are holding 49 Culture Night events in 39 venues. Amongst these venues are some of County Galway’s richest cultural assets such as The Battle of Aughrim Interpretive Centre, Claregalway Castle, Athenry Castle, The Irish Workhouse Centre in Portumna, Portumna Castle and Coole Park.
There is something for everyone including multicultural celebrations, poetry and story readings, cultural lectures and tours, film screenings, art and photography exhibitions, drama plays and workshops and of course traditional music and dance sessions to name a few.
Galway City Council have also prepared a Culture Night Programme for the City. This along with the County Programme can be viewed on www.galwayculturenight.com. You can also visit our facebook page called Galway Culture Night.
The Launch of Galway Culture Night will take place at 6.00pm, Thursday 13th September in County Hall, Prospect Hill, Galway by the Mayor of County Galway and the Mayor of Galway City. All are welcome.
There are also events taking place in the Gaeltacht areas of County Galway coordinated by Ealaín na Gaeltachta Teo. Visit www.ealain.ie to download a programme.
Everything is free of charge to the public so we really hope you help make Culture Night 2012 a night to be remembered!
