Delivering a Connected Society - A National Broadband Plan for Ireland
This Plan was launched in August, 2012 and sets out the strategy to deliver high speed broadband throughout Ireland. It acknowledges that high speed broadband is core to competitiveness.

NATIONAL BROADBAND SCHEME
The NBS is a government sponsored initiative to bring broadband to areas in Ireland where it was previously unavailable. The Government awarded Three the contract in December 2008 and since then we have been extending our network to provide broadband to these areas.
The NBS roll-out is now complete.

RURAL BROADBAND SCHEME
The Rural Broadband Scheme was launched by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources on the 9th May, 2011. The Rural Broadband Scheme has been established to enable a basic broadband service to be provided to individual rural premises which are not capable of obtaining a broadband service from existing internet service providers.
The Scheme has been set up in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture as a measure under the Rural Development Plan using funding from the European Agriculture Fund for Rural Development.
The Application Phase of the RBS closed on 29 July 2011.
